Wadi Rum then Little Petra

We headed 90km south to the stunning Desert Valley of Wadi Rum where we explored the scenery in a 4 wheel drive with a proud local Bedouin driver.

During World War I, T. E. Lawrence (of Arabia) made his home in the valley and famously described Rum as "Vast, echoing and God-like".

The extreme of the environment is obvious. Even the wildlife have adapted

We went to the campsite used by the epic filmmaker David Lean's epic 'Lawrence of Arabia' was shot. The rock carving commemorates this.

This carving shows King Abdullah I, who lead the Arabs into victory..

We were given tea of cardamon, sage and cinnamon. Very refreshing.

Phosphate is the primary export and main contributor to the economy in Jordan. There are many mines..This long train from the mines located in this region traverses the landscape regularly on its was to the port of Aqaba in the Gulf.

Little Petra

A small but important site, it was though to have served as an agricultural centre, trading post and resupply posts for camel caravans visiting Petra.

It has a Temple and a valley (Siq) this area has been less studied and archaeologists know little about it.

Many structures were used as dining rooms to feed hungry merchants and travelers.

The Nabataean paintings on the walls have been blackened by Bedouin fires.
